1. Components of an ATS System

  • Enclosure: Made from electrostatically powder-coated steel to resist oxidation and protect the internal components. The size of the enclosure depends on the power capacity and specific usage requirements.
  • Switching Device: This can be a Contactor, a motorized Change-over switch, or a Manual Transfer Switch (MTS), designed for either automatic or manual operation.
  • ATS Controller: A microprocessor that controls the power source transfer process according to pre-set parameters.
  • Copper Busbars: These serve to distribute electricity within the system and are designed according to the rated current.
  • Control Interface: Includes push buttons, switches, an LCD screen, and indicator lights for monitoring and adjusting the operating mode.

2. Functions of an ATS System

The most critical function of an ATS system is to automatically start and stop the generator—a key feature that minimizes human dependency and ensures stable operation.

When the main grid power fails to meet the required standards (due to phase loss, neutral loss, under-voltage, over-voltage, or a complete outage), the system automatically disconnects the load from the grid and starts the generator to supply power. When the grid power becomes stable again for a pre-set duration, the system automatically transfers the load back to the grid, then runs the generator in a cool-down mode before shutting it down completely.
